Technical Writings on Vedic Astrology

I am honored to receive a large amount of requests for writing/ teaching on this subject.

It is surely on my mind and I will certainly write a treatise on it someday. However to compress knowledge of over 2 decades, which starts with a multitude of encyclopedic sized books coupled with actual reading experiences from thousands of horoscopes is a tall task in itself, at least for me. A comprehensive treatise will be long and hence illogical to begin touching in a blog.

I do understand, believe me, the frustration of a new student to this subject. The vast enormity and diffuse nature of theoretical material along with an even harder application part of it. Going back 2 decades, nothing would have made me happier than a precisely written treatise on this in a powerful/ compact form.

However, I will try for 2 things-

1) Long term – write a detailed treatise on the subject and try to compress all my knowledge in a “readable” sized book. Trying to keep it as short as possible and hitting the relevant points an astrologer should target for (I don’t envision this below 300-600 pages, even yet, and hence certainly a long term project for me)

2) Short term – Maybe start another link on this blog talking about some technical parameters which people tend to show a lot of interest in, during emails to me or what I have observed in some very active astrology forums. (This will assume a basic knowledge of astrology and will mean nothing for the complete starter, but might be relevant in giving my thoughts on some keen topics of interest.

For the #2 above, this will be in no necessary order as I will address things that come to my mind from queries I get. So again, not intended for a casual (no astrology knowledge) reader. This can be relatively short term and more dynamic in nature and hence I might start relatively quickly in the coming days/ weeks.

  1. I would like to read about career and entrepreneurial prospects through analysis of a horoscope.
Also interested in reading decisions to be made in old age regarding staying with children in a different country-through horoscope analysis.
Thirdly, about health in old age to be predicted through astrology.
Though I am a technical person (retired Professor in Electronics & communication Engineering) I have been interested in astrology through reading many articles and video lectures. I use Jagannatha Hora software for horoscopes. I like your articles and hence my request. With best regards.

Dear Satish Chandra ji- there are no specific chapters, per se, for living with children or old age health in astrology. however astrology deals with all the aspects of human life including health and foreign settlement.

I did get your request for your own reading. Typically I don’t do personal readings as I get one too many of them and this is not a job for me. However since you are a professional in engg (a field I come from) as well as a senior citizen, I will make an exception and look into your chart and reply to you at your personal email that you used to send the request

      thanks

  2. Thank you for this quick response.

  3. I have requested for a critical look into my horoscope under email ID mentioned hereto. Kindly spare some time to advise me to take corrective actions.

      Hello Kishan,

I do not do personal readings. However instead of deleting, I can keep the message here visible in case someone wishes to do the reading for you, I will publish that reading also in such a scenario. thanks

      • Sundar says:

        Hello Sri Kishan,
You lagna is Dhanur, Simha Rasi (ruled by Sun) UttaraPhalguni star (ruled by Venus).
Saturn, Guru and Venus in Dhanur Rasi – Guru sits in 12th house (Scorpio). Mars, Rahu, Ketu are exalted – Mars sits in the 1st house and ketu sits in the 3rd house (Kumbha). Budhan and 9th lord Sun in Kumbha Rasi – Sun sits in the 2nd house.

Implications: Saturn’s position in lagna means stress. Saturn is transitting in Dhanur since 1 year back and for another 420 days, so the stress levels would be higher. Saturn dasa started in 2016, so that would add to stress levels. Venus (pleasures, good food etc) sits in lagna and is also your star’s planet. This could lead to indulgence in food and pleasures to counteract stress and lead to ill-health.

Suggestions: Help the common man, Anna dhaana on Saturdays atleast once a month is good. Worship Sri Rama and Hanuman everyday especially saturdays. Do the dhaana and worship with your heart, more as a means of transformation rather than as a mitigation of saturn. Try to be less judgmental of others if you are not. Since Mars is in the 2nd, it could lead to harsh cutting speech. Since Saturn in its dasa tends to punish, avoid harsh speech.

  4. There is lot of confusion while reading several astrological sites in the usage of House, Sign (Rasi). House I understand means Bhava, and sign or rasi would never get to be referred to be referred as houses numbered from Mesha Rasi as No.1 to Meena Rasi as 12. When referring 1, 2, 3…always tend to confuse with bhava 1, 2, please enlighten and remove clouds.

rashi and bhaavs both go from 1 to 12 ofcourse. the ones you see on a chart are usually raashis. so if 10 is written in the first house of a chart, it implies that the lagna or 1st house is Capricorn (Makara)

    Dear Vivek Ji,

Am sure few of readers would have pondered (may be have already shared with you) However, kindly share your thoughts/views on what is:

    1. Significance/reasoning of dasha sequence e.g. after shukra is sun, then moon, then mangal etc.
    2. what could be probable reason as to why shukra dash is 20 years, ketu/mangal 7 years, shani 19 years etc.

& off course the sequence of Ashwini nakshatra in Mesha & each length as 13 degrees & 20 minutes & likewise till Revati. why only 4 further bifurcations. (there may be many other school of thoughts on many astrological things but am talking about the most stable fundamentals which have stood the test of Yugs) The actual/Core reason behind this pls. or is it a Circle (360 degrees concept) one starts at a point and visits/experiences energies all along the circle & come back to the same point where it started & may be attains moksha or starts/embarks on a new journey (playfully)

Basically the sage/Rishis properly analyzed (dissected) energy & gave many distinction to each category manifesting a human. (e.g. Raashi, their nature as fire, water, air etc, planets their friendship/enmity etc. & many such fundamentals) Am sure all this was observation &/or experience by knowledgeable souls & some divine intervention possibly. All such energies definitions/categorization is exhaustive or there is something more yet to be explored.

    With Best Regards.

vimshottari is just one of many dasa systems in jyotish
as per why the order and magnitude, no one knows. I dont think there is a specific exact reason. it is an emperical art based on observations by the rishis long back. That is the way it somehow works on observation and hence a norm/ rule.

pretty much like why is sun x miles from earth and not x+2000. i guess it is what it is
