9 Planets & their Significations

Next step is Planets. As mentioned in last post, there are 12 signs, 12 houses and 9 planets

These will change much later down the road when ‘Upagrahas’, divisional charts, nakshatras etc. will be discussed but for now, lets keep it simple!

Phew! thats what comes to mind with the planets. Now when analyzing houses and planets, an astrology student should get into the habit of correlating the significations that are common. These will show more floridly in the character of the person and also during the planetary periods (‘Dashas’) of the planets.

  1. Umesh B N says:

    Hi Vivek,

Good article on planets. I have a question regarding how to make analysis of horoscopes considering characteristics of both bhavas and planets?. Means some bhavas and planets indicate the same thing like 10th house relates to career so as some planets also. Which will take priority whether bhava or the concerned planet?

    Best Regards,
    Umesh

    • VS says:

      Hi Umesh,

One has to consider the bhav and its aspects, the ruler of the bhav and aspects on the ruler, the concerned divisional chart (D10 for career) and also the general karakas for the bhav e.g. sun for father along with 9th house and its bhaav etc.
      Thanks

  2. Atul Kamath says:

    Hi VS,

This query pertains to Leo Asc ONLY.

Mercury is the 2nd & 11th lord. Now, if Mercury is placed in the 2nd house (exalted), does this make a Dhana Yoga in D-1, by virtue of lordship of both these houses, and thereby creating a strong relationship between Dhana & Laabha sthanas. Also, please note, the 12th lord Moon is posited in 11th house (Gemini) in D-1 and is in Taurus Navamsha.

Furthermore, being the lord of 4th & 9th houses, Mars is a Yogakaraka for Leo Asc. However, can Mars be SIMULTANEOUSLY treated as the Badhakesh (being the Lord of 9th house (Badhaka sthana for Fixed Asc/Lagna in Sthira Rashi – Leo in this case).

    Please advise.

    Many thanks.

    Rgds & God bless..!

    • VS says:

A strong mercury (especially if aspected by jupiter or venus) will certainly give good assets and a good communication skills in the 2nd house. but you have to consider all the aspects on it and its divisional and nakshatra placement as well

yes, mars is both a yoga karaka and a badhak lord for leo. However yoga karaka effects predominate, as it is a strong mutual friend of lagna lord sun

  3. Sundar says:

    Sri VS:
To define somebody in terms of personality, behaviour how do we use the moon rasi and the lagna rasi? Which is the best indicator of the kind of response to a stimulus? Can you kindly give a small example ?

    • VS says:

moon sign will show general nature of emotions, feelings, imagination and memory of a person
lagna will show the physical attributes and general health plus general personna

  4. Sundar says:

    Sri VS:
What are the effects of a retrograde Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury? I have seen many youtubes on this: I have heard that retro Saturn is very good, retro Jupiter is not that good, retro Mercury means more sharpness of mind and so on; also heard contrarian views; hence asking you. Thank you.

    • VS says:

Retro planets become unpredictable and can give sudden results like Rahu/ ketu
they also become ‘learning’ planets like rahu and ketu and can take effects of planets conjuncting or aspecting them

in general characteristics, they either amplify too much or reduce the general nature of the planet. Example mercury retrograde in gemini. The person is likely to be a non stop talker. in some rare cases he might not talk at all. So in other words some extreme happens in the general characteristics

saturn retrograde in general will cause more delay to the houses is sits/ aspects in

  5. Adidam says:

    Hello VS,
    I have a small question,

For a cancer ascendant at 17:00 degrees with jupiter at 12:00 degrees in it and saturn in seventh house at 13:00 degrees in capricorn which has aspection on first house .Similarly mars at 23 degrees in 12th house .

    In this case
Does the angle of all the planets are relative to the lagna ? If yes,
Then in these three planets which has stronger influence in 1st house.

    Kindly respond,Thanks.

    • VS says:

both jupiter and saturn both will have a strong impact on the lagna…mars will not being in the 12th house

      • adidam says:

        Thank you VS,
I just want to know which planet is stronger in lagna among jupiter and saturn .
As i asked about the degrees of the planets,as they are relative to the houses which they are sitting or relative to the lagna house.
ex : moon in capricorn at 1 degree with saturn at 13 degrees
lagna house : cancer at 17 degrees . In this case their degree position is relative to the capricorn lagna ? or the cancer lagna ?
        Thanks .

        • VS says:

a planet placed closer to the cusp (bhaav madhya) of the house is stronger
secondly a planet that is exalted or mooltrikona or own house is stronger than others
finally a virgottam planet is strong and generally a planet within 8 to 22 degrees of a rasi is strong

  6. Sundar says:

    Sri VS:
For a Cancer asc, with Mercury sitting in the 12th, I see lot of skin issues + over-thinking. Is there a gem stone that might help?

    • VS says:

can try green emerald, sometimes it can help. in right hand small finger 5 rattis. if it doesn’t help, simple strengthening of the lagna lord moon by Pearl in index finger on a Monday will help

  7. Adidam says:

    Sri VS,
Considering two malefic planets such as sun and saturn ,If they are in own or exalted position in natal chart but both getting debilitated in navamsa chart .Does they loose all the power in the native’s life and give bad results or just behave neutral .
what is the case in benefic planets like jupiter and venus .Kindly explain
    Thanks.

    • VS says:

a planet exalted in D1 remains exalted regardless of navamsa. But a planet debilitated in navamsa will tend to lose its steam over the course of life or its own dasa. sory of start great and lose power over time

  8. Mayur Kher says:

What will be generic effect of transiting Jupiter conjuncting with Natal Venus, both being Shubh Grahas but enemies of each other.

    • VS says:

it all depends on the functional nature of venus, its location in the chart and its strength. In addition to functional nature, some generic features will also be activated. Example pleasure seeking or pleasure loving nature or romance/ marriage etc

  9. Mayur Kher says:

Gochara position of Grahas are more effective in Chandra Kundli, Surya Kundli or Janma Kundli

  10. Mayur Kher says:

Karaka Bhaav Naashay, Does this apply to Jupiter in 5th.

  11. Mayur Kher says:

What are the generic effects of retrograde planets.

  12. Sundar says:

    Sri VS:
For a cancer asc, how does Sun do in Gemini? It’s bala is strong and since it is 11th from the second would it give wealth? OR does it lose its significations in the 12th?

    • VS says:

every 12th person will be a cancer ascendant. every 12th of those will have sun in gemini or every 1/144th in the world or about 52 million people. will all of them have good or bad finances as per this?
the answer has to lie in the combinations and strengths of other planets in totality

  13. Sundar says:

    Sri VS:
When we analyze the house strength from the Graha Lagna (like the 3rd from Mars, 7th from Venus) to see the strength of a house or the Naisirgika karaka (like 5th from Jupiter for children) to see a particular karakatva, should we look at the D-1 or the divisional or both? If I look at D-9 is it valid/required to look at the 7th from Venus? Just the 7th should suffice, I thought..Please advice.

    • VS says:

look at only D1 in this manner. the analysis for D9 and others is not apples to apples as D1 is. it gets more complicated in divisionals

  14. Sundar says:

    Sri VS:
According to PVR Rao, regarding Natural and Sthira karakas, he observes that one should not take the nth house from a Sthira karaka and this applies only to natural significators.

Moon is a natural significator of mother, so I can take the 4th from the moon. However, Sun as not indicated as a natural significator of father but only as a sthira karaka, so I cannot see 5th from the Sun. Is this correct?

Venus is natural significator of both husband and wife. Jupiter and Venus are sthira karakas of husband and wife respectively. PVR states that for both male and female, we should look at the 7th house from Venus for marriage related issues, not the 7th from Jupiter in a female chart. What is your opinion?

You have mentioned Mars be used instead of Jupiter for modern times. I believe that Mars would be a sthira karaka in this context and hence the 7th from Mars should not been seen in a female’s chart.

    Please opine.

    Thank you.

    • VS says:

No Sthira karakas should be followed from parasara. The relevant house you should know from basic astrology knowledge. So sun will be for father. 9th from sun will show father, 10th from sun will show status in career/ society etc.

      • Sundar says:

So for female, we should see 7th from Mars (Jupiter) for spouse as you have mentioned in a few answers already, not 7th from Venus ..just confirming here.. If I am wrong, please indicate, else you can delete.

        • VS says:

yes 7th from Mars for female
also in general the karaka for sexuality is mars. So to some extent even mars rules over marriage for males too. however for males use 7th from venus

  15. Sundar says:

VS, How significant are the effects of the upagrahas like Vyapit, Dhoom, Indra Chaap, Parivesha? Do you see them -vely (and significantly) affecting the bhaav in your research?

    • VS says:

I think their effect is minor, if at all. I only consider Gulika & Maandi

      • Sundar says:

        VS, do Gulika and Maandi:
        1. affect the bhaav AND the planets sitting in the bhaav (like a conjunction)?
        2. How is maleficity manifested?

        Thanks.

        • VS says:

they act like heavy short acting malefics. like a magnified saturn. however if their rashi, nakshatra and navamsa depositor is say exalted, they will create strong raj yogas in a kendra or kona.
in general they are good to have in upaachya sthaans

  16. Ludo says:

Hi VS, I recently discovered your site and firstly I want to congratulate you for spreading this knowledge in this factual and authentic way. I have been studying Jyotish mainly from the original BPHS and some commentaries of Muthuswami ect.
I am a Cancer Asc and my Moon is in Vrischika the 5ft bhava together with rahu. My question is: Moon being Lagnesh good in a Trikona. Moon being 2 degrees 55′ in Scorpio is debilitated. Saturn (8th) with Ketu aspecting it.
How should I take this debilitation? I can understand some of the effects of rahu on my mind, but I don’t quite get the effects of Moon debilitated/also trikona (9th house Sun and Venus as well).

    • VS says:

      Thanks for your kind words
As you might know, I do personal reading for now. if moon is debilitated in the 5th house and conjunct with Rahu, please note the following-

      1. If moon degree is 2 degrees and 55, its deep debilitated. Check how far from sun. The brighter moon is, the better it is
      2. Not how far is rahu from moon. The closer it is, the worse. same for Saturn aspect on moon, closer in terms of degrees the more the impact
      3. note the strength and dignity of mars. For example if mars in own house scorpio or exalted in Capricorn it is a raj yoga. If mars is weak, this is not good at all

in general this combination will give an emotional mind and nature of the individual that is prone to depression and big mood swings. the person can go from really happy to really sad in a short period of time and also have suicidal thoughts

  17. Aditya says:

    Guruji,
While speaking about 9 planets, is it possible for you to share the direction it represents, e.g. venus – west, jupiter – north, etc. How does one interpret the MD – AD direction together.

Also, wanted to know can Juipter in AD with Sun MD support relocation for job purpose. At the time of birth, Sun is delibilated but Jupiter is in medium strength.

    Thanks.

  18. Aditya says:

    Thank you VS.
One doubt – if one looks at MD – AD together do I consider their direction I. E. Separately or who is stronger amongst the both.
For study purpose sun is east and Jupiter is North east – together?
    Thanks and regards, Aditya

  19. jai says:

    Hi VS,

    Its about Capricorn Lagna..

Mercury as lord of 9th and 6th house is in 8th house Leo(Friendly) and Saturn lord of 1st and 2nd joins it in 8th house leo(Inimical).
and lord of 8th Sun in 7th Cancer.

as we beleive Mercury is good if it joins good and bad if it joins melefic.

In this situation where Saturn has joined Mercury what will be the outcome?
Is ther any remedy to reduce negative impact?

  20. Bella says:

Sorry if I missed it, but what is the fixed karaka equivalent to Jaimini’s Gnati Karaka?

  21. BR says:

    Hi VS,

What’s the relationship of Venus with Ketu and Rahu? I mean if Ketu is sitting on Venus’ mooltrokina sign Libra does it weaken Venus? And what about Rahu?

My guess is that they must be friends or neutral with Venus since they’re friends with Saturn which is a friend of Venus.

    • VS says:

typically whichever sign the nodes sit in, they spoil or pollute the owner of the sign to some extent, especially Rahu. But both increase the power of the rasi planet owner as well. especially ketu. If ketu sits in any sign say Venusian sign and is also conjunct or trinal to venus, then the power of venus in the planet will increase a lot. Whatever venus represents in the chart will become more powerful, but some malefic touch gets associated with it as well as some ‘sudden events’ factor..sometimes good, sometimes bad as per the chart

      • BR says:

Thanks VS! Your replies are the most logical of any online astrologer I have seen! Keep up the good work! 🙂

Anyways, the reason I asked was I saw on a forum that someone had Ketu in 9th house Libra and Rahu 3rd house Aries. They had Mars/Venus conjunction in the 7th house. The ascendant and rasi was Aquarius.

In my eyes, that created a Raj Yoga in the 7th house as Mars, Venus own quadrant and trikona for Aquarius and moreover according to Jaimini, conjunction of Rahu/Ketu axis owners in a kendra is a further great Rajyoga. Also, it is a conjunction of 9/10 in kendra, so a dharam-karam adipati yoga.

However, I saw that some known astrologer posted that Ketu sitting on Venus’s rasi makes Venus weak inspite of Venus being a Yogakarak. And that that is responsible for the hurdles in getting married for the native. Even more than the fact that Mars is in 7th. The owner of 7th house Sun is sitting in the 8th house with Mercury (exalted), separated by about 3.5 degrees.

Also…Venus in the 7th house is sitting in Ketu’s nakshatra and Mars is sitting in Venus’s nakshatra.

Further, Ketu is in Rahu’s Nakshatra and Rahu in Venus’s nakshatra.

        • VS says:

Rahu-venus-mars in same trine or conjunction in the Kaam trikona will lead to a hypersexual nature and destroy relations due to the same as well. Mars in 7th causes mrit avastha of the 7th during its dasa and bhuktis. overall the whole horoscope has to be seen. Purely rahu or ketu in some sign don’t weaken the lord. Infact they both act as magnifiers of energy. rahu externally more and ketu internally more

          • BR says:

Awesome! Thanks VS! That makes sense.

          • BR says:

Just to add to this…what do you think about the Rajyogas that I mentioned? Based on your articles, I think both good and bad yogas can co-exist.

So, can I say that the rahu-mars-venus trine/conjunction and manglik mars issues you mentioned as bad yogas that are co-existing with the good ones that I mentioned?

          • VS says:

Good and Bad always coexist in astrology like in real life. Astrology is meant to be a means to predict real life events of people

  22. Sundar says:

    Hello Vivek,
I see scandals for Ketu and not for Rahu. I thought Rahu, given its nature would have that signification more than Ketu. Is it possible that Rahu would be about financial and sex scandals whereas Ketu would be about spiritual related scandals like that of God-men?

  23. Sundar says:

    Vivek,
Quoting from one of your answers for convenience:
“If ketu sits in any sign say Venusian sign and is also conjunct or trinal to venus, then the power of venus in the planet will increase a lot.”

Does Ketu not absorb the power? For example Ketu with Mars makes Mars more controlled.

    • VS says:

it is both ways..however ketu will magnify the power of the planet it conjuncts or trines with as well of the bhav./ rashi it occupies

      • Sundar says:

Are you saying that Ketu absorbs Mars’ power but manifests that power even more? Does that not make the case worse since Ketu has an unpredictability to it?

        • VS says:

yes in life almost nothing is only good or only bad

ketu with mars will make It an even more volatile combination always. if this happens in any martian or saturn sign, especially aries or scorpio can give a predisposition for violence and injury/ surgery
however an exalted mars with ketu will do mostly good as now the exalted and constrained qualities of mars are being amplified

if mars is a functional YK example for cancer and get exalted in the 7th bhaav with ketu, it will give extremely good results for career, name fame and money and meanwhile most likely will destroy the married life of the person. that is how most planets and combinations work. its good with the bad etc

          • AJ says:

            Hi VS,
You said above “if mars is a functional YK example for cancer and get exalted in the 7th bhaav with ketu, it will give extremely good results for career, name fame and money and meanwhile most likely will destroy the married life of the person”. 2 Questions:
            1. What if this mars is with Rahu? What will be the affect? Different from what you mentioned?
            2. And what if this Mars (with Rahu) is also Retrograde. How will that modify the result if the depositor is well placed – say in 11th house?
            Thanks
            AJ

          • VS says:

if it is with rahu, instead of a disciplined and potentially calm minded person, it will be an aggresive (atleast outwardly). Aggression could be constructive like contact sports or working in army/ law enforcement etc.
if mars is retrograde then it becomes more volatile and the person might work extremely hard or very less, might not be able to maintain the channel of their energy or effort in life. also in that case the disposition of saturn becomes more vital as mars will also behave as saturn and will almost sure shot make a long term marriage impossible

      • Rahul says:

        Hi vs
Does this concept apply in divisional charts as well?

  24. Rahul says:

Above concept about ketu increasing power of planet sitting in trine.

  25. Rahul says:

    Hi vs sir
I meant to ask whether ketu increase the power of rajyoga if it is sitting in trine .this question is not fully generic.jupiter and saturn causing kendra trikone rajyog in ascendent in virgo and ketu sitting in capricorn.please forgive me if this question is not generic

  26. Rajeev says:

    Dear vs,

How would rahu behave for leo lagna if it is with exalted venus in 8th house of pieces and jupiter in 9th house of aries..does rahu with exlated venus in 8th house spoil the venus or amplifies venus to give good result

    • VS says:

rahu will give the effects of the bhaav its placed in as well as the functional results of any planet it conjuncts

  27. Aditya says:

    Sir,

When it comes pratyantar dasa, how much importance is given. In case the ongoing MD – ad is not supporting, can we look at the PD for results.
    Regards, adi

    • VS says:

pratyantar changes more rapidly and is the dispenser of final events. however the events can not themselves be determined by L3 dasa. If L1 doesnt promise something, L2 and L3 can not provide it

  28. Vasudev says:

    Hi,

A planet in good house but negative sign give good results or a planet in bad house but friendly sign gives better results irrespective of benefic or malefic planets for lagna.

  29. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
For Saturn Lagnas, is the placement of Saturn in 3,6,11 still good? Asking since Lagna lords should ideally be placed in kendra/Kona..Thx.

  30. Mrugesh says:

    Hi VS,
Can you please comment on the maxim that Saturn preserves the house it sits in, but it’s aspects are more malefic.
While the converse is true for Jupiter.
Have you found this to be correct?

    Thanks!
    Mrugesh

    • VS says:

yes, saturn and jupiter both add weight or gravity to the houses they occupy and aspect
with jupiter, it tends to make a person sort of lazy in that arena which can damage the house it sits in ..especially in this cut throat competitive world. saturn adds weight and discipline into the area and repeated activity into the area it sits in. if the bhaav lord itself is strong, this makes it stronger albeit slower due to saturn

  31. Sundar says:

Hello VS, For a Cancer lagna with Rahu in the 6th (best bhaav for it but debilitated) and Jupiter exalted, can Jupiter bring hidden diseases from Rahu’s association to the person?

    • VS says:

yes, however moons strength and placement as well as Saturn aspects as the karaka of disease will be very important to check

  32. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
Like there are avasthas for planets, is there avastha for bhaavs? A planet in marana karaka sthana (e.g. Jupiter in the 3rd) will cause harm to the bhaav . Is this an avastha effect on the bhaav? What is the difference between this effect and the lord of that bhaav ,say 7th, posited in the 12th (loss of the 7th bhaav)?

    Thanks.

  33. Sundar says:

Hello VS, is Moon in the 4th not good for the mother and her heal Thx.th?

    • VS says:

yes generally it is not due to bhaavo karaka naashe. however it is more applicable only when moon is in own sign and alone in 4th

  34. AJAY PAHOOJA says:

    Hi VS.
For Aries ascendant, jupiter sitting in 9th house (MK),exalted in Navamsa but very weak shadbal, no aspect on it, no conjunction, wearing yellow sapphire will be auspicious?
    Thanks

  35. AJ says:

    Dear VS,
Is there such a rule that if 8th lord and 9th lord aspect each other, 9th lord dasha becomes average to negative but 8th lord dasha gives the results of 9th lord? I heard its a rule written in phaldeepika. If yes, are there any exceptions where 9th lord dasha would give its own results i.e positive?
    Thanks

    • VS says:

8th lord by itself is more neutral than negative and will mimic the lords it conjuncts or is aspected by very much like rahu or ketu. otherwise naisargika strength wise, 8th is stronger than 9th in ranking and hence if they affect each other and 8th is stronger in the chart, intermingling of results will take place to some extent. how much depends on the closeness of aspects and other things

  36. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
Is the Tithi lord’s dignity important for marriage? Say from the 7th, tithi lord is in kendra/kona…

    Thank you.

    • VS says:

Not sure. Honestly in my research, marriage is one area I have not focussed on that much and I feel that the Point system, manglik etc are not accurate mostly. One needs to just match overall vibrations of one chart with another more than these finer details. easy to get lost in the bigger picture when one only focusses on the finer points

  37. I’m looking for Pluto and Neptune and Uranus are not on your list in the nine planets I can’t figure out my plan is I can’t read about them LOL

    • VS says:

Hi, these planets are mentioned in the vedic texts but are not considered relevant enough for analysis as they tend to be extremely slow moving and thus more of ‘generational’ planets as opposed to individualistic planets in a chart

  38. Hemlata says:

    Dear Sir

When reading navamsa, do we read the chart only for planets strength or we read the whole chart such as houses owned, malefic/benefic based on D9 chart? For example, sun and moon exalted in navamsa (in d1, moon is 5th lord and sun is 6th lord but in navamsa moon is 8th lord and sun is 9th lord). Also, does the placement such as in dushtana etc matter for navamsa?

Thank you for your valuable insights.

    • VS says:

always use any divisional in context to the natal chart. so if moon exalted in navamsa, see where taurus is in the basic chart and if venus is a functional benefic or not. Moon will tend to give results of taurus in the effects related to D9 (marriage, overall dignity of the planet) etc

  39. VSV says:

    Hello,

Please educate on what is the meaning of having a planet mentioned in brackets in Jhora. At the same time, the same planet is mentioned along with “(R)” in other places within Jhora.

    Thanks

  40. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
For Taurus lagna, budha (not combust) with Sun sits in Cancer with Moon in Pisces. Will it harm if I strengthen Budha? Will Moon feel more disturbed?

    Thanks

    • VS says:

no way that strengthening budha will harm moon as moon considers mercury as a friend. strengthening generically and functionally benefic planets is never harmful even if it is not very helpful in some cases depending on the chart

  41. Hemlata says:

    Dear Sir

How would we judge conjuction of planets? I get confused about that.

Let’s say, moon is at 27 deg in aquarius, rahu is at 5 deg in pisces and jupiter at 27 deg in pisces. In lagna chart, it shows jupiter with rahu in 4th and moon in 3rd (in bhava, moon and rahu go to 3rd). So, should one consider rahu conjuct with moon, even though they are in different rashi or rahu with jupiter? If that jupiter is retrograde (moving towards rahu), does that change the conjuction equation?

Please help clarify. Thank you so much.

    • VS says:

when 2 planets are in the same sign, they have a common bond of same depositor and hence technically conjunct. however the degree of seperation between then should be 12 or less for the conjunciton to have any significant impact and usually less than 8 for a strong conjunction. if 2 planets are less than 8 degrees apart, even in different signs, they are still conjunct, however the conjunciton is slightly weaker than same sign conjunction as the depositor is not not the same

  42. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
    Re: Covid-19 pandemic..
Many astrologers are talking about Rahu in ardra and Ketu in Moola.
My humble opinion is that Ketu is about pandemics and the Guru/Saturn/Ketu in Dhanur started this sometime back and the effects are showing since January.
Rahu could be a factor due to Kala Sarpa Dosha at this point but the start of this was much earlier.
    Your thoughts?

    • VS says:

      my thoughts-

1st leg of betterment when Rahu moves out of Ardra and out of saggi navamsa as currently the navamsa position also shows the nodes maintaining the axis
2nd leg is when the transit kaal sarp yoga (which followed the great eclipse of Dec 2019) will end- this is end May roughly around May 28th 2020. Beyond this the impact of nodes will losen up significantly
3rd leg is when rahu- ketu change signs around Sep 19, 2020, after this the impact will be minimal in terms of Covid 19

In terms of economic impact, till jupiter moves away from 5 degrees in capricorn for good, which is only Jan 2021, there is unlikely to be a sustained improvement in the global economy, even if the markets rebound to some extent. equity markets always are a precursor to actual macro trends. Thus the economic impact will last another 10 to 12 months before a permanent long term solution starts to kick in

      • Varun says:

Hello VS – Do you know if any astrologer was able to predict that such pandemic will strike the world?

        Thanks

      • Abhishek Pande says:

This is great, particularly the navamsa point. Been discussing this offline with Sundar and thank you for continuing to enlighten the group here. On a side note, they blamed the 10-2 inversion as well as a precursor to long term credit cycle slow down but covid came fueled it so much that the world tumbled upside down.

        • VS says:

economic indicators are just that – indicators, they are symptoms of a problem and not the problem itself. EU and USA economy have not grown in the real sense in a while now and lots of lose credit (due to an elongated depression of lending rates since 2008) has led to an unusual bull cycle which was not sustainable in any sense. Oil war had already started and then Covid led shutdown and job losses have pushed an already fragile world economy over the edge for sure

      • Sundar says:

Thanks VS. A few follow up questions if you don’t mind:
Is there anything about Rahu in ardra that makes it different from it in Swathi and Satabisha? All three rasis are vaayu rasis. Budha is bhoo tattava, Venus is jala and Saturn is vaayu, but Kumbha is Rahu co-ruled. Or is it about the nature of ardra itself?

        Thank you

  43. Sundar says:

Dear Vivek: About “equity markets always are a precursor to actual macro trends”, the current stock market evaluations are being driven by short sellers buying trying to cover their short positions. There is nothing happening in the economy now, yet it keeps going up. As the Dow kept going down to 19,000, short sellers placed a ton of bets. I am not in finance but let me know if I am wrong. 🙂

    • VS says:

it keeps going up due to the global level and especially USA fiscal and monetary stimulation which has been the greatest ever in history and fed continues to stand by to do as much more as needed. Trillions of dollars have been pumped into the economy and inlfation adjusted negative rates by the fed, thus markets have to reflect all that, not just the slowing down in the economy. We are still about 15 to 20% below where we were in Feb 2020 before the virus

  44. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
Ketu is a Moksha karaka and creator of scandals, aerial accidents, pandemics. I’d like to know what karakatva applies due to individual and global.
About pandemics..he is a global karaka. Aerial accidents – as you have pointed out ketu in the 8th can cause in an individual chart. Globally, Ketu in Saggi (especially in Moola) with saturn can cause aerial accidents. Ketu in the 8th can produce scandals for an individual. How about Ketu in the 12th which is moksha sthaana? Can it produce scandals there sitting alone and not aspected by saturn in low dignity?

    • VS says:

the nodes act more of 1) the aspects and conjunctions they have (even partial aspects) and 2) as per their rashi, nakshatra and navamsa lords. Ketu generally gives good results when aspected by jupiter or in jupiter signs. In saturn signs, it can give good results when saturn is a functional benefic and placed well. otherwise in generic good signs of venus and mercury, it can give good results if the depositor is placed well

  45. Sachin says:

    Hello VS,

A person having Virgo Ascendant has mercury(19d)in 2nd house of libra along with venus(26d) but in navamsa such a mercury is debilitated in ascendant can such a person wear emerald since his ascendant lord is getting weak in navamsa and would such a mercury be capable of giving any good results in its maha dasa and antardasa..thanks

    • VS says:

no harm in wearing an emerald

      • Sachin says:

        Hi Vs,

Thanks for the reply..is such a mercury capable of giving any good results in its dasa and antardasa since its debilitated in navamasa..thanks!!

        • VS says:

this is a specific question that requires a complete analysis of a chart – something that i dont do here. but in general yes sure any planet, even if debilitated in navamsa can still give good results. This is just one of the factors to be considered

  46. Rahul says:

    Vivek sir
Mixing of energies of Jupiter saturn and moon gives native a profession related to masses so Jupiter and saturn(in nakshatra lorded by moon) and saturn aspecting moon can be considered as mixing of energies of these 3 planets?

  47. narayan says:

    Dear VS,

For Aries lagna, venus the lord of 7th house is placed in Gemini at 1 degree with sun who’s at 15*. Can such person be blessed with marriage.
Saturn and rahu are in 5th house – Leo.
    Please share your thoughts.

    • VS says:

yes why not – the person can surely be married still. Also a full chart analysis is required and I unfortunately dont do as such on this forum

  48. narayan says:

    Dear VS,

    1. For Aries rising, saturn (11*) and rahu (16*) are in the 5th house of Leo. Can this impact fertility of a woman or the person is unromantic. Such people are very good at doing research work also.

    2. There are certain horoscopes where mercury is ahead of Sun. In such cases what could be the effects. for eg. sun is in Gemini and mercury in cancer.

    3. If Mars is in second house (Taurus at 1*), can this person have harsh speech.

    Please share your thoughts.

  49. Sampath amin says:

    Dear Sir,
Could you please guide how Jupiter mahadasha period would be for taurus moon sign, vrishabha rashi.krittika nakshatra pada -3and placement of Jupiter in cancer in 10th house of my horoscope, despite Jupiter being exalted going through some tough times since last 3 years on career front.

    • VS says:

no idea w/o a full chart analysis. If a planet is bothering you on personal or professional front, do remedies for it and donate things on its day and during its dasas

  50. Rahul says:

    Sir

Do you use KARAKAMSHA LAGNA to determine profession? I am confused about whether this lagna is located in navamsha Or rashi chart

    • VS says:

it is the rashi where the AK deposits in the Navamsa chart and it is another focal point for the D9 chart firstly. meaning read navamsa chart as if that were the lagna instead of the actual navamsa lagna. Also same rashi in lagna chart also becomes important to see

  51. Varun says:

Hello sir – Does it help 8th house matters (longevity included) if the 8th house is strong? Also, I believe any planet placed in the 8th house gets afflicted. However what if 8th house lord is in 8th with all functionally benefic planets including the lagna lord. Does this help alleviate the status of the horoscope or degrades it further?

    • VS says:

it depends on the lagna, planets and overall yogas. Can not be just generalized. Any house lord when it sits in its own house, is generally a good thing

      • Varun says:

What if lagna is Leo with all benefics (Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Moon and Mercury) in Pisces? Here 8th lord is in 8th with other benefics in a benefic rashi but malefic house.

        • VS says:

results will be mixed only and the more the number of planets very close to sun and 8th bhaav madhya, more can be issues. rest can not be predicted without an exact horoscope analysis

  52. Krish says:

    Dear Vs,

A person havin capricon Ascendant with saturn(22d)exalted in 10th house of libra aspected by venus from 4th house and ketu from 6th house..and saturn debilitated in 1st house of navamasa..can such a person wear blue sapphire and is such a saturn capable of giving any good results since its debilitated in navamasa

  53. Sandeep says:

    Hi VS,
If trinality to a planet is to be judged as equivalent to (but less than) a conjunction in effects. How should one assess Kendra to a particular planet ?
    Thanks

  54. Sandeep says:

    Hi VSji,

You have mentioned that a luminary as lord of a dusthana becomes Functionally neutral for the chart and loses its signification as ruler of the dusthana.
Since it in effect becomes a “learning” planet how do we judge through dispositor placement etc. if it has regained its signification ?

    • VS says:

its agenda will become neutral ‘ish’. however that does not mean that they will act completely neutral. They will carry forward the dusthana agenda also, albeit more mildly than the other planets. the aspects and conjunctions are crucial. when you analyze any planet, its own dignity and shadbal shows the strength with which it carries the agenda of the houses it owns and its own generic nature. on the other hand the strength of the planets that conjunct/ aspect it will show how much the planet itself will be modified. for example planet A is sitting with very high strength in a sign and conjunct/ aspected by planet B. A in this horoscope can be a functional malefic and B a functional benefic

if Planet B is much weaker in comparison then planet A will manifest its negative agenda freely as it is stronger and the mitigating effect is weaker.

      Vice-versa will also be true

  55. sriram says:

hi I have mercury exalted and retrograde in 11th house in virgo sign for scorpio ascendant in 19 degrees , does it act like debilitated? since he is 8t and 11th lord , being 11th lord will income get troubled ? his nakstra lord moon in 2nd house with parivarthanai yoga with jupiter which is placed in 9th house ? how will be the results during mercury antardasha ?

  56. sriram says:

hi , if a planet sits in nakshatra of say for eg moon which is in 2nd house but moon parivarthanai with 12th lord now should i take as moon in 2nd house or moon in 12th house , when will parivarthanani actually happen ?

  57. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
Jupiter being a planet of expansion, does it expand the effects of the planet that is conjunct with? If true, when Ketu/Saturn/Guru were in saggi, it did expand the effects? And what happens now when it is conjunct Shani where Shani dominates? Can its generic expansive nature still show?

    Thanks

  58. Digamber Purohit says:

Hello after long time! I have question on financial market – you had predicted that due to Covid stock markets all over the world are going to be unstable during 2020. Which has been true isn’t it!

My question – what about the oil industry? Will oil prices increase a lot during 2021-2022? And if so, when do you see this happening (approx. timing). Reason for asking is Shani governs oil, minerals, iron ore, coal etc. and since It will be in Makar and Kumbha rashi for next 5 years, whats the expected effect on oil prices? Of course, other factors also to be considered like supply/demand, travel reopening, virus going down. Thank you!

    • VS says:

Saturn does govern oil prices and is strong for next 5 to 7 years. However I don’t delve much into mundane jyotish as it becomes too generic. Goodluck with research into jyotish and correlation with transits. Will await to see more results and deductions from you

  59. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
    For a Taurus lagna/Pisces Moon..
Guru in the 7th bhaav ( 6th rasi neutral) from lagna, 8th rasi/9th bhaav from Moon, Guru aspecting Pisces 70%.
Is wearing a gem good? The person is already wearing one for Budha placed in the third with sun.

    Thanks

  60. Sundar says:

    Hello VS:
I noticed something funny, if I may use that, in my chart:
Ketu and Moon sit in Uttarabhadra, Sun in Pushyami – Saturn taras
Venus sits in Poorvaphalguni – venus’ tara
Guru in Vishaka – Guru’s tara
Budha in Aslesha – Budha’s tara
Rahu in Hasta and Lagna in Rohini – Moon’s tara
Saturn in Moola, Mars in Magha – Ketu’s tara

Does this pattern mean anything? Thx

    • VS says:

no it just means that you are observing details in charts which is a good thing. For any planet, the rashi, nakshatra and navamsa are always a trifecta signature that is important in analyzing the results of any planet

  61. Lauren says:

How does one interpret karaka bhaav nasha, if it is indeed a thing? I’ve heard lots of controversy on whether or not it operates. If it does operate, does exaltation of the planet involved help/does anything else help to counteract it damaging the house it sits in?

    • VS says:

It operates cleanly only when the given planet is sitting alone in the said bhaav in its own sign. example moon in cancer in 4th or sun in leo in 9th etc
